When someone dies in Eos, a process known as the Samsara occurs. The Samsara is the process by which a soul detaches itself from its physical reflection in the material plane and makes its way to Purgatory, where it waits to be judged by Kelemvor. Samsara occurs in three phases, with each phase making resurrection progressively more difficult.
The person has just died, and the soul is yet to detach from the physical body. This is the time where resurrection is easiest, and tends to run for 6 seconds.
The soul has freshly detached from the body. It is still in the spirit realm, and now moving towards Purgatory. During this time it is vulnerable to magical devices and rituals, such as the devilish Tithe of Fire. This phase tends to run for 1 minute.
The soul has entered Purgatory and is waiting to be or is being judged. After judgement, damned souls are condemned to the hells, while good souls are granted a new life in Elysium. Souls that go too long without judgement or are deemed too ordinary for either destination dissociate, returning their energy to the spirit realm. It can take up to 200 years for a soul to be judged.
